About the Role:

Ash is looking for a VP of Finance. As VP of Finance, you will lead Ash’s financial operations and be a core part of the company’s leadership team. You will be responsible for all finance-related operations with the objective of driving better strategic decision-making and performance through financial modeling, forecasting, and analysis. You will report directly to the CEO and own strategic planning and forecasting, accounts payable, and all other finance-related operations. Initially, you will be a team of one with the opportunity to build out the finance function as we scale.

This is an in-person role out of our New York office, with flexibility for some remote work.


Requirements:

  • Experience: You bring 10-15+ years of experience in strategic finance roles with a significant portion of your career focused on scaling growth-stage companies. Your background demonstrates a successful track record in building financial infrastructure to support rapid expansion and operational scaling.
  • Financial Expertise: Your financial acumen is top-notch, encompassing deep knowledge in financial modeling, analysis, and forecasting. You possess a broad skill set that includes expertise in budgeting, financial reporting, cash flow management, and investment analysis. Proficiency in financial software and platforms, with advanced Excel skills, is required. Familiarity with SQL and other data analysis tools is highly desirable.
  • Leadership and Team Management: Proven experience in leading and scaling finance teams is essential. You should have a strong record of managing high-performing teams, mentoring finance professionals, and fostering a collaborative and results-driven work environment. Your leadership skills enable you to build and guide your team through the complexities of rapid growth phases.
  • Strategic Planning and Execution: You have demonstrated the ability to develop and implement strategic financial plans that align with business goals. Your strategic mindset allows you to not only foresee and plan for future growth but also to pivot and adapt strategies in response to changing market dynamics.
  • Operational Efficiency: With an eye for operational efficiency, you are adept at identifying and implementing process improvements that optimize financial operations and support business scaling. Your approach integrates financial management with operational workflows to drive efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Communication: Exceptional communication skills are a must. You are adept at translating complex financial data into clear, actionable insights for non-financial stakeholders. Your ability to communicate effectively with senior management, the board of directors, investors, and your team is crucial for fostering alignment and driving strategic initiatives.
  • Industry Knowledge: While not mandatory, a good understanding of the healthcare ecosystem, regulatory requirements, and emerging trends is highly beneficial. This knowledge will enable you to make strategic decisions that align with industry dynamics and regulatory frameworks.
  • Location: Based in NYC. The role offers flexibility with a hybrid work arrangement, but your presence is needed in the office to lead the team and collaborate with other departments effectively.

Responsibilities:

  • Strategic Financial Leadership: Oversee the company’s financial strategy, including forecasting, budgeting, and financial modeling. Play a pivotal role in setting financial targets and ensuring that strategic planning aligns with business goals, particularly focusing on profitability and margin optimization.
  • Operational Oversight: Extend your leadership beyond traditional financial operations to include significant aspects of our physical operations. Taking into account our pricing model, contracting process, vendor management, selection, negotiation, and audit process. This will likely involve optimizing logistics and supply chain management to improve cost efficiency, reduce turnaround times, and enhance service quality, directly impacting our margins and overall financial performance.
  • Team Management and Development: Build and manage a multifaceted team that spans finance and operations. Lead recruitment, training, and development efforts to ensure the team is skilled, motivated, and aligned with our growth and efficiency goals. Foster a culture of continuous improvement, operational excellence, and financial rigor.
  • Financial Operations Integration: Ensure seamless integration of financial management with operational processes. This includes overseeing billing, payroll, procurement, and inventory management, ensuring these functions support the company’s financial health and operational efficiency.
  • Cost Management and Margin Improvement: Drive initiatives to analyze and control costs, improve margins, and enhance overall financial health. Work closely with the lab network logistics team to identify opportunities for cost savings and efficiency gains, applying rigorous financial analysis to guide operational decisions.
  • Performance Metrics and Reporting: Develop and maintain a comprehensive set of performance metrics and reports that provide insight into financial performance, operational efficiency, and key business drivers. Use this data to inform strategy, operational adjustments, and performance improvement initiatives.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Act as a key liaison between finance, operations, and other departments, ensuring clear communication and alignment of financial and operational objectives. Engage with external stakeholders, including suppliers, partners, and regulatory bodies, to support business operations and strategic initiatives.
  • Risk Management and Compliance: Oversee risk management strategies related to operational and financial practices. Ensure compliance with financial regulations and standards, as well as operational policies and procedures, particularly those affecting the lab network and logistics operations.
