About the Role
As our first Infrastructure Engineer, you’ll join a high-functioning engineering team as the expert in all things cloud infrastructure and DevOps. Week in and week out, you’ll either be working on pure infrastructure projects, or you’ll be embedded with a product team, helping them design solutions for their systems and tooling needs. You will inherit an environment where many best practices are already followed, but where there is always room for improvement. You will play a leading role in helping us level up as a team and company.
Teams at Ash work on a variety of challenging problems, ranging from building asynchronous systems that handle complex order fulfillment tasks at scale, to designing web experiences that allow patients to access care more easily. You’ll be a leading voice in helping teams like these in the development of best-in-class infrastructure, reliable systems, and strong QA practices.
We work with the following technologies:
- Python, GCP, Docker, Kubernetes, Helm, Lens, Terraform, Sentry, and Cypress.
You’d make an ideal candidate if:
- You’ve spent at least 6 years working in an infrastructure, DevOps or related role at software organizations, and at least 3 years in a senior DevOps or similar leadership role. You bring a high level of experience to the picture straight away, and are ready to step in as the first hire on our infrastructure and QA team.
- You have a proven track record for building excellent QA processes, and your standards for excellence are high.
- You are highly experienced with GCP (preferred) or AWS. If we showed you our account, you’d be intimately familiar with all the core cloud components & able to quickly build your own picture of our stack.
- Your diagnostic and troubleshooting skills are excellent. You can methodically triage, diagnose, and resolve system failures.
- You want to set a vision. You value thinking critically about how we can make our systems more reliable or make our engineers more productive. You are capable of planning and executing upon technical, architectural, or cultural changes that you and the leadership team identify as high priority.
- You’re an excellent communicator, and are comfortable working with stakeholders across the business.
In this role, you will:
- Design and lead infrastructure initiatives that enhance our reliability and productivity. You will collaborate with our VPE and product teams to continuously identify, prioritize, and implement infrastructure improvements, such as developing a new CI/CD stack, stronger autoscaling mechanisms, or automating data pipelines into lower environments.
- Enter as the principal voice in infrastructure and DevOps. You will work closely with other engineering leaders to define short and long term strategic vision, and play a pivotal role in implementing that vision.
- Work embedded with engineering teams. Our products are growing and evolving rapidly. You’ll be a key voice in working with other teams to ensure that this growth is supported by excellent infrastructure.
- Be the standard-setter for QA in the organization. You’ll work in partnership with a variety of teams to help improve the quality, durability, and performance of their services.
- Take overall responsibility for our infrastructure. You will quickly absorb ownership of key resources from our VPE, managing daily infrastructure needs and requests, such as reviewing Terraform changes, setting up new instances, and addressing urgent maintenance issues.
